Planning For A Monotone Room

Do you ever ask yourself, where do I start to plan my decor? Here are a couple of easy tips to get started:

1. Pull color palettes from your outside landscape. Landscape can be an extra special effect if you have floor to ceiling windows or picture windows. Let the view be your art!

2. Use the elements of your architecture to guide your way. In the mood board example, I used the square aspects of the windows, the circular component of the light fixture, and the wood tones of the ceiling to guide the way.

This home has so many windows I wanted to make it a feature. To accomplish that, I made sure there weren't any furniture elements competing for attention or taking away from the view of the trees outside. Thus a monotone palette was chosen.

The second element I took into consideration was the light fixture with its linear bars and circular glass covers. I chose to take the circle pattern down into the furniture choices to make the theme cohesive.

Lastly, I took the wood tones down from the ceiling and brought them into the room, which created one story from top to bottom.

The accessory story for this room can go in many directions for the homeowner and can be changed out seasonally. Some examples would be trees, willow branches, flowers, wreaths, books about the seasons, the sky's the limit for home accessories in a monotone type of room.
